The New England Revolution aren’t in the best of situations, as they have more draws than anyone else in the league, pushing them down towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference. But that doesn’t mean that all hope is lost. Kelyn Rowe is one example of that.
Rowe’s spirit is not at all dampened by where his team sits. If anything, recent statistics would show us that he is stepping up even more than usual in recent matches, and he remains WhoScored.com’s top performer on a Revolution’s team that is populated with the likes of Lee Nguyen and Diego Fagundez.
Rowe was adamant that the optimism around the locker room is still incredibly high and that they know how close they are. “We are one player away” he kept saying. Convenient that Kei Kamara just showed up.
As we always do at the end of our interviews (see C.J. Sapong), we engaged in a little quickfire question and answer with our conversation mates. Rowe was happy to oblige and this is what happened.
You’re taking a PK against Bobby Shuttleworth. Do you score?
Yes.
Pick any player in the world to bring to the Revolution?
Past or present? Lionel Messi, that would be great. Zidane if past.
Where is the hardest place in MLS to play?
Kansas City. They have a great fan base and it is so loud and so small. Seattle is great, but it pumps me up too.
What is your favorite European soccer league?
English Premier League
Do you have a favorite team from the Premier League?
Not really. I jumped on the Leicester bandwagon, but who didn’t?
Greatest movie ever created?
That’s the hardest question ever. Stripes. I used to watch it with my Dad all the time and Bill Murray is great. Also Major League and the Lord of the Ring trilogy.
Your favorite goal ever scored
The one in LA, it was in front of the Jessie Rees foundation.
Favorite sport other than soccer?
Basketball. I’m not very good at it but I love to play it.
Finally, what is the greatest thing about Boston?
The people. Most people see them as abrupt and rude. But when you really get to know them, they are genuine, loyal and nice people.
Stay tuned for the rest of the interview, where we talk about Kamara’s arrival, the Revolution’s optimism and the amazing and inspiring work that Kelyn Rowe does off the field with the Jessie Rees foundatoin.
